Comments on Bhagavat Gita!

"The secret of karma yoga which is to perform actions without any fruitive desires is taught by Lord Krishna in the Bhagavad-Gita." - Swami Vivekananda    "The Bhagavad-Gita is a true scripture of the human race a living creation rather than a book, with a new message for every age and a new meaning for every civilization." - Sri Aurobindo   "The Bhagavad-Gita calls on humanity to dedicate body, mind and soul to pure duty and not to become mental voluptuaries at the mercy of random desires and undisciplined impulses." -Mahatma Gandhiji    "When I read the Bhagavad-Gita and reflect about how God created this universe everything else seems so superfluous." - Albert Einstein    "The Bhagavad-Gita is the most systematic statement of spiritual evolution of endowing value to mankind. It is one of the most clear and comprehensive summaries of perennial philosophy ever revealed; hence its enduring value is subject not only to India

One bedroom flat..

ONE BEDROOM FLAT... WRITTEN BY AN INDIAN SOFTWARE ENGINEER..   A Bitter Reality As the dream of most parents I had acquired a degree in Software Engineering and joined a company based in USA, the land of braves and opportunity. When I arrived in the USA , it was as if a dream had come true. Here at last I was in the place where I want to be. I decided I would be staying in this country for about Five years in which time I would have earned enough money to settle down in India . My father was a government employee and after his retirement, the only asset he could acquire was a decent one bedroom flat. I wanted to do some thing more than him. I started feeling homesick and lonely as the time passed. I used to call home and speak to my parents every week using cheap international phone cards. Two years passed, two years of Burgers at McDonald's and pizzas and discos and 2 years watching the foreign exchange rate getting happy whenever the Rupee value went d

Girl with Down syndrome is a swimming champion

Image
Bhopal: A 12-year old swimming champion from Bhopal, Ira Parihar, has accomplished what most swimmers have not even attempted, despite suffering from Down syndrome. Ira Parihar has been swimming since she was 3-year old.   At the age of 8 she crossed the breadth of Bhopal's Historic Upper Lake. This is nothing unusual, except that Parihar has Down Syndrome, a genetic disorder associated with learning disabilities. Now, the 12-year-old can swim for hours without showing any sign of fatigue. And although she has clocked 1.5 km in a little less than 30 minutes, her love for the water keeps her away from the finish line.   But coach Mukesh Mishra pushes her gently to move towards the bank when attempting a record. " She finds it diffcilut to comprehend between start and finish. Otherwise she is as good as anyone ," coach Mishra said.    Ira Parihar won two gold medals at the special state Olympics in Mandsaur in 2006. She also participated in the special nati

EUREKA RUN 2011

Image
Eureka Child Foundation, over the last fifteen years have worked, chiefly, in Tamil Nadu to ensuring quality education and healthcare reaches the poorest. To clarify, in demanding quality education all we require is that children in each class be able to perform the tasks the minimum curriculum prescribes. The organisation as a whole (including the chapters abroad) was awarded The Times of India Social Impact Award this year for Global Contribution to India. A "Eureka Run" was organised last year on Nov. 14th, Children's Day, to raise awareness about the quality of education the poorest in Tamil Nadu receive. A total of 1,500 runners aged between 2 and 75 years showed their support running a 5 kilometer stretch on Chennai's Marina Beach. The money raised at this event has transformed the lives of 500 children. This year the event is to take place on Saturday, 12th of November 2011.   Funds will be raised by charging a registration fee of Rs. 250. Each registratio

Vasi Yogam/Gathagatham/Siddha Yogam

Image
The ultimate part in yoga is Vasi yogam,  AKA Siddha Yoga/Gathagatham etc. This was composed by great siddhars and it is used a short cut for Self realization. “ Vasi ” means to dwell or reside inside. The one that resides inside is the true self keeping the body and mind as instruments. Vasi Yoga comprises the process of harmonious breathing by which  we are enriching our body and mind with the energies required for health and happiness in our self. The body and mind are activated and energised by the life force called “ Prana ”.There are five different pranic energies in our being responsible for the functioning of our Gnana-indriyas and Karma-indriyas which are the faculties helping us to live in this world. A combination of lifestyle changes, Yogic Kriyas and breathing techniques harmonise the energies of our body and mind for a healthy living.  You also need a connection to the inner being through understanding and feeling of our inner energies through Meditat

Trip to India as teen was a life-changer for Steve Jobs

Image
NEW DELHI: Steve Jobs came to India as a teenager in search of enlightenment. He returned disappointed, following a brush with lice, scabies, dysentery and a near mob thrashing after he protested at being sold watered-down buffalo milk. But the trip did mark a turning point in his life. In his own words, it helped him realize that " Thomas Edison did a lot more to improve the world than Karl Marx and Neem Karoli Baba (the guru he was seeking, who died before they could meet) put together " .   Steve Jobs : His works, legacy Jobs' India connection, though, preceded his trip. As a penniless college drop-out , he would walk seven miles every Sunday to get a free meal at the Hare Krishna temple. He also retained a lifelong admiration for Mahatma Gandhi. In 1997, Apple's 'Think Different' ads, which featured his personal idols, included the Mahatma. Tough India visit led him to question many illusions Steve Jobs' trip to India was eventful, to put it mildly

Durga Puja

Image
Holy Mother (Sri Sri Sarada Devi) graced the Durga Puja celebrations held at the Belur Math by her presence. To attend the Puja at Belur in 1912, she camped there for about a week. When she arrived at the gate of the Math at the close of the Bodhan ceremony (awakening of the Deity), the monks and devotees, headed by the great Swami Premananda, unhorsed the carriage and drew it through the Math grounds. On successive days hundreds of devotees made flower offerings at her feet. Swami Brahmananda worshipped her with one hundred and eight full-blown lotuses, and her devotee and disciple, Dr. Kanjilal, danced before the image of the Deity with gestures and postures like a mischievous imp, to entertain the Divine Mother, as it were. She was again present at the worship of Durga held in 1916. We get an impression of the exaltation she created by her presence, in the following extract from a letter of Swami Shivananda: ' Owing to the presence of the blessed Holy Mother a

Let all beings be happy..

Image
Doing is very good, but that comes from thinking fill the brain, therefore, with high thoughts, highest ideals, place them day and night before you, and out of that will come great work. The infinite future is before you, and you must always remember that each word, thought, and deed, lays up a store for you and that as the bad thoughts and bad works are ready to spring upon you like tigers, so also there is the inspiring hope that the good thoughts and good deeds are ready with the power of a hundred thousand angels to defend you always and for ever. Mentally repeat, " Let all beings be happy; let all beings be peaceful; let all beings be blissful. " The more you do that the better you will feel yourself. You will find at last that the easiest way to make ourselves healthy is to see that others are healthy, and the easiest way to make ourselves happy is to see that others are happy. -Swami Vivekananda.

The dog's curly tail

There was a poor man who wanted some money; and somehow he had heard that if he could get hold of a ghost, he might command him to bring money or anything else he liked; so he was very anxious to get hold of a ghost. He went about searching for a man who would give him a ghost, and at last he found a sage with great powers, and besought his help. The sage asked him what he would do with a ghost. " I want a ghost to work for me; teach me how to get hold of one, sir; I desire it very much ," replied the man. But the sage said, " Don't disturb yourself, go home. " The next day the man went again to the sage and began to weep and pray, " Give me a ghost; I must have a ghost, sir, to help me ." At last the sage was disgusted, and said, " Take this charm, repeat this magic word, and a ghost will come, and whatever you say to him he will do. But beware; they are terrible beings, and must be kept continually busy. If you fail to give him work, he will

Breakfast at A RESTAURANT

Image
This is a good story and is true, please read it all the way through until the end! (After the Story, there are some very interesting facts!): I am a mother of three (ages 14, 12, 3) and have recently completed my college degree. The last class I had to take was Sociology. The teacher was absolutely inspiring with the qualities that I wish every human being had been graced with. Her last project of the term was called, 'Smile.' The class was asked to go out and smile at three people and document their reactions. I am a very friendly person and always smile at everyone and say hello anyway. So, I thought this would be a piece of cake, Literally. Soon after we were assigned the project, my husband, youngest son, and I went out to A RESTAURANT one crisp March morning.   It was just our way of sharing special playtime with our
